Do you or your kids like popcorn? Do you use store bought popcorn? Then this post is for you. I never expected to make popcorn at home until the other day. I accidentally made popcorn when my little one was pestering me and S had just then got a huge can of dried corn. I saw the instructions on the can and was surprised. It was such a simple procedure and I cursed myself for not having made this at home earlier! As all of you know,  homemade stuff is always better because all the artificial flavoring and colors can be eliminated. I was making for my kids, so I did't season it with spices or chilli powder. My kids were all the more pleased.

My 9 year old has just begun to read the labels of store bought snacks and is amazed at the kind of stuff they add in there. So she was happy to have avoided all that.."Small steps in the right direction", I thought and offered her a second helping!!

I think I will never ever buy popcorn or the 'ready to pop in the microwave' sachets from now on..

Home Made Popcorn

Ingredients -

Dried whole grain corn 3 Tbsp
Ghee / Vegetable Oil 1-2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Any other seasoning as per taste

Method Of Preparation -

In a heavy bottomed pan, spray oil so the base of the pan is totally covered in oil/ghee.

Sprinkle the seasoning of your choice. I sprinkled salt and Black salt too.

Turn the heat to medium high.

Sprinkle the corn seeds in a single layer.

Once the corn starts popping (it took about 2 min), cover with a lid allowing the steam to escape.

Keep shaking the pan so they don't get burnt.

Switch off the flame once the popping stops.

And your pop corm is ready!!

Home Made Popcorn

  12. Sometimes we are so used to buying certain things (however simple maybe) that we don't even try to think of attempting them at home. Aren't we?

  14. I'm not a big fan of store-bought popcorn and I especially hate the smell of butter popcorn and burnt popcorn. Yours looks way better than store-bought ones and much healthy too.

@Priya Mitharwal - Trust me it is as easy as it sounds. My husband was surprised when I offered home made popcorn and refused to believe me and tried it himself! (So if he could make it, anyone can make it!!)
