BM #99 Day 5 - 

The next letter in the alphabet is E for Ellu Maangai Saadam. This is a slight twist to the traditional Maangai Saadam or Raw Mango Rice/Mamidikaya Pulihora.

The addition of sesame powder gives a whole new flavor to this already flavorful rice. Off late we have been using a lot of sesame seeds and we are definitely in love with the flavor.

The No Onion No Garlic platter showcases Vankaya Kothimeera Kaaram, Sambar, Ellu Maangai Saadam, Rice, Yogurt, Dosavakaya, Mysore Pak, Mirchi Bajji, Vadiyams and Fried Chilies

Ingredients - 

Rice 1 1/2 cups (I used Sona Masuri Rice)
Raw Mango 1 medium (1 cup approx) Grated
Roasted Fenugreek powder 1 pinch
Turmeric  1/4 tsp
Green chillies 4-5 nos (vertically sliced)
Salt to taste
Seasoning (Oil 1 Tbsp, Chana Dal 2 tsp, Urad Dal 1 tsp, Mustard Seeds 1 tsp, Jeera 1/2 tsp, Dried Red Chili 1-2, Curry Leaves few, Peanuts handful, Cashews few)
Lemon/Lime juice 1-2 tsp (Optional or if the raw mango is not sour enough)
To Roast and Grind - 
Sesame Seeds 1 Tbsp
Coriander Seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/4 tsp
Coconut Powder 1 tsp
Red Chilies 2

Method Of Preparation -

Cook the rice in any preferred method. After the rice is cooked, spread the rice in a wide platter allowing it to cool.

Roast the ingredients one by one as listed under 'Roast and Grind'.

Grind all of the roasted ingredients into a fine powder and set aside.

In a skillet on a medium-high flame, heat some oil add seasoning, peanuts and cashews. 

After the mustard seeds start crackling, add green chillies turmeric, roasted fenugreek powder.

Add salt, the grated mango and the sesame powder. Mix for a couple of minutes.

Remove from the flame, add this mixture to a bowl with the cooked rice and mix well.

Squeeze the lemon juice if required.

Serve hot.
