Whey Watermelon Lemonade

For BM #35, I have chosen to do a series on Weight Loss. In that context I shall introduce a dear friend of mine, Pooja, who is a professional lifestyle counselor with over 10 years of experience. Her specialty is Obesity Management and has a Post Graduate degree in Public Health Nutrition and Dietetics (Gold Medalist).

She has kindly lent her expertise in composing an article with some tips, tricks and recipes to make losing weight an achievable goal.

Let us start by reading what she has to say...
“A Balance Diet cures more than the Medicine!!"

Weight today seems to be the biggest problem after global warming! Losing weight is something which has become a universal need these days. It is not only necessary for looking good but it is also important for people who want to improve their health and remain fit, healthy and active.

Food is the latest medicine capable of curing almost any disease, right from Obesity, diabetes, cholesterol imbalance, hypothyroidism etc. Food has many ingredients which can, besides nourishing your body also help in treating diseases or as we can say healing the body naturally. So stop calling them 'hateful' kgs/lbs, as we know that we have been blessed with abundance and with enough food to eat. It’s just that we have abused this blessing.

As we all know that incorrect food habits along with an unhealthy lifestyle is the chief contributor to many of the dreaded diseases.  At Nourish Pooja’s Diet clinic, we do not restrict ourselves to just giving simple advice but we actually assist and facilitate the entire health transformation process.

Let us see how macro and micro nutrients play a role in maintaining our health. Out of which the focus here will be on protein which is the powerhouse.

Protein is the body's nutritional powerhouse, a critical need for both adults and children at every stage. But are we getting enough of this essential nutrient ??
The human body is the most complex, hi-tech machine in the world. In its simplest avatar, imagine it to be a giant furnace, which constantly needs to burn food as fuel in order to keep it in optimal working condition. While we are careful enough to load only the highest quality of fuel in our cars, we're often not as considerate to our own bodies. We tend to follow fad diets, skip meals, always eat on the run or munch on junk food that has little or no nutritional value.

It isn't surprising then that a majority of us experience these undesirable changes—severe hair loss, brittle nails, lack of energy, wounds that take a longer time to heal, a sluggish metabolism that causes us to gain weight more easily, despite the fact that we haven't increased our food intake in any way.

Often, we put down these changes to the natural aging process and until it becomes so severe that it disrupts our normal lives, we don't give it a second thought. If these problems have been plaguing you lately, you may be happy to learn that it can be easily reversed, provided you pay close attention to your diet.

Let us take a break from this article while you think about "Are you getting enough protein?"

Here are some tips and tricks to keep a tab on your weight ..

  • Cut down your sugar intake. Limit it to 1-2 tsp/day.
  • Red meat to be avoided.
  • Dinner should always be light and early.
  • Do not give too many gaps in your meals.
  • Follow small and frequent meal pattern.

Here is a recipe recommended by Pooja, for a protein filled breakfast!! She recommends that the whey water be used in kneading the dough for making rotis, or used in soups, sambar etc to add more protein to our diet.
