So for Day 2 of this marathon, this protein packed Dal Kurma will be it. Check here to know what my fellow marathoners are upto!
Ingredients -
Whole Masoor Dal (Red Lentils) 1/2 cup
Whole Moong Dal (Whole green gram) 1/2 cup (I used yellow moong dal instead)
Ginger Paste 1 Tbsp
Garlic Paste 1 Tbsp
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Cardamom 5-6 pods
Cinnamon 4-5 inch piece
Almonds, blanched 1/4 cup
Raw Cashews 1/4 cup
Whipped cream 2 Tbsp
Green Chillies 2-3 (or as needed)
Onion, finely chopped 1/2 cup
Salt as needed
Oil / Ghee 2 Tbsp
Notes - The original recipe called for 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Since I had whipped cream I just used a couple tablespoons of it and yet it was very rich!
Method Of Preparation -
Pick any stones, wash the dals 2-3 times and pressure cook the dals adding the ginger paste, garlic paste, cardamom pods, turmeric and cinnamon adding sufficient water.
Blend the blanched almonds, cashews, green chilllies to a smooth paste.
In a heated saucepan, saute the finely chopped onions until they are crisp. Add 1/2 cup of water and the nutty paste. Wash the blender with water to get all the remnants of the nuts :)
If preferred, remove and discard the cardamom and cinnamon sticks from the boiled dal. Add the dal to the simmering mixture.
Add salt and coriander leaves and stir continuously for about 2-3 min. Remove from fire and serve hot with Rice / Roti / Naan.
